Iford & Kingston Church of England Primary School

Class 2

Class 2 is a mixed age class, comprised of 15 Year 2 children and 12 Year 1 children. The class is taught by Mrs Vicki Strachan, the class teacher, with Miss Skinner and Mrs Sumner, who are teaching assistants. The classroom is divided into 5 table groups, with a space for the children to sit on the carpet, a book corner and a home corner. There are 5 computers within the class, but all children have a chance to also work on laptops. Work is mainly topic based and the children are taught the same topic work, but it is differentiated according to age and ability.

The Seaside

This term the children are learning about the seaside for their topic. This involves looking at various places in the UK and other parts of the world with Barnaby Bear. The children all love Barnaby Bear, and take turns to take home our very own toy Barnaby each week, where they write a journal of what they have done with him. We are also learning about the history of seaside holidays, where the children pretend to travel back in time with 'Magic Grandad' who tells them what seaside holidays were like 50 years ago when he was their age, and 100 years ago when his grandad was their age. We have a school trip planned for later in the term to Hastings, to visit the 'Blue Reef Aquarium', and also see the fishermen landing their nets.

Here are some examples of poems the children composed about the seaside;

AT THE SEASIDE

At the seaside,

There is a little tide.

Eating fish and chips,

You might be able to see some ships.

You might see some stones.

While your ice cream cones.

No one is disconsolate

Or bored.

By Poppy Rahman  Age 7

ON THE SEASIDE

Sometimes you see crabs.

Crabs are red everywhere.

Crabs have red claws.

Claws that hurt you.

Crabs are small.

Crabs get trodden on sometimes.

They walk sideways.

By Lewis Leslie  age7

The seaside

Pebbles are hard

Under your feet.

They feel warm

In the sun.

Throwing pebbles in the sea

Is good fun for me.

Lio Spinelli Age 7

The Seaside

At the seaside

I swam in the sea

I saw a fish

And cooked

It for tea.

By Edward Manning

Age 6

THE SEASIDE

Sharks swimming in the sea

Sharks swim around looking for tea

Dolphins diving through

The waves splashing like stars in the sea

Fishes swimming around rock pools

Looking for a home to live with a friend .

By Harvey Manning age 7

The seaside

Some waves are green and blue.

Some waves are little and big.

 Riding boats and catching fish.

Fish are nice to eat.

Having picnics and having tea is a nice treat.

Then the fish were laughing.
