Wednesday 14th June 2017
We were delighted to welcome the Ready, Steady, Cook team from Chartwells to the school on Wednesday 14th June. Two chefs gave the children some valuable information on different food types and their role in a healthy, balanced diet. The talk was followed by a cooking challenge in which two teams, each consisting of a teacher and two pupils, cooked a healthy, nutritious meal in just 15 minutes. The children then got to taste the food and voted for a winning team. The meal of Thai salmon fishcakes with spiced noodles cooked by the red team narrowly scraped home as winners although the vegetable curry with cous cous cooked by the green team was also delicious.
The chefs were really delighted with not only the enthusiasm and knowledge exhibited by the children but also their fantastic behaviour and manners. We, in turn, were really grateful to them for a wonderful morning of entertainment and learning and will certainly be inviting them back for another cooking challenge shortly.
The recipes for the meals are attached and I'd certainly recommend both of them (although the fishcakes were particularly special!).
