Hello my lovely Elm Class and parents.
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with your family and that you are all safe and well.
Well, I wasn't expecting to be writing to you in January to say that learning would be remotely taught again but sadly it is.
Our topic this term is 'On Safari'. It is such a wonderful topic that encompasses science, geography and some gorgeous African art.
Each day I will add math, English, and a topic based activity for your child to do. The topic activities will be either science, geography, music, P.E or art based.
Phonics - Each day I will add a Letters and Sounds phonics lesson. I will also add Active Learn games connected to the sound when appropriate. I have attached the Phase 5 sounds we are currently learning. On Elm's homepage you will find a folder containing phonics websites.
Spelling - On Elm's homepage you will see ways to support your child with spellings at home. I will upload the Year 1 spelling words and high frequency words below.
Handwriting - Practise handwriting on lined paper if possible. Choose a letter or phonics sounds and practise writing using the pre-cursive font (lead in/lead out but not joining).
Reading - Please hear your child read everyday. Bug Club (via Active Learn) is a fantastic reading platform.
I will update this message accordingly as things are bound to change. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Take care everyone
PS. Please send photos in of any home learning and I will add them to the class gallery.
Please logon to Active Learn to access online reading and Numbots for additional maths learning.
