Good Morning Beech Class
I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. Mine was lovely; I had my first appointment at the hairdresser's since February! I don't look like an Afghan Hound anymore!
Ben (who is now home from University), Maddie and I spent several hours watching Winnie the Pooh films which led me on to finding out as much about AA Milne as I could and planning return trips to Ashdown Forest to play 'Pooh Sticks.' It also left me very cross! Part of my research uncovered the fact that Christopher Robin's original cuddly toys of Winnie and his friends are on display in a museum in.......New York! I feel it is the Elgin Marbles all over again and I need your help. If your script is finished and you can pause your picture book for the moment, please can you write a letter, just like you did a few weeks ago, persuading the people of New York that Winnie the Pooh should be returned to Sussex.
You might find it useful to know carry out some research of your own but the essential facts are that Winnie and his friends were 'born' and grew up in Ashdown Forest, Sussex and belonged to Christopher Robin, the son of AA Milne and who the books were written for. Somehow in 1947, an American publisher acquired the toys from Christopher Robin, who was keen to forget all about his association with them. Years later they were sold to the museum in New York and, admittedly, they have been well looked after and even repaired but......for goodness sake, they should definitely be returned to their Sussex home!
Remind yourself of the features of persuasive writing and create a letter that will convince the museum owners that Sussex should be the home of Winnie and his friends.
