Phonics

Today we learning another new sound. This new sound is 'w.' Well done for joining in with Miss Baulcomb's lesson today on Tapestry (if you have done so already). Below is the new jolly phonics song for 'w.' For the action to this song you need to blow onto your open hand, just like as if you were the wind!

Jolly Phonics "w" Sounds

Now you have sung the song, it is time to watch Geraldine! Let's see what she finds around her house this time that begins with 'w.' Have you found anything around your home that begins with a 'w?' After you have watched the video scroll down a little more to see some activities for you to get on with. smileyyes

Geraldine the Giraffe learns the /w/ sound

Watch UK school teacher Mr Thorne and Youtube sensation Geraldine the Giraffe take you on a learning journey through the world of phonics, grammar, spelling ...

For your activity can you have a look at the pictures below. Next to each picture is the word to match the picture, but the initial sound is missing on each word! Can you have a look at the pictures and decide which sound is at the beginning of each one? You don't have to write them, you can just talk about it with your mum's and dad's orally, or you can have a go at copying the letters in each word onto a piece of paper, and then putting the sound at the front - whatever is best for you. After you have completed this I have also attached for you the 'w' workbook, which you could also have a go at too! We can't wait to see your lovely Phonics learning on Tapestry!
Don't forget to practise spelling our new tricky word of the week 'be.' What way are you going to practise writing it today? Is it going to be in playdough, or written in flour? Will it be written with your felt tip pens? Will you write it with magnetic letters? You choose! smiley
