Iford and Kingston CE Primary School, along with the other primary schools in the Lewes area, has selected Sounds Write as its SSP (Systematic Synthetics Phonics Programme) to deliver the teaching and learning in phonics and early reading and writing. Staff in YR, Y1 and Y2, as well as some of the KS2 staff, have been trained in the delivery and use of the Sounds Write programme and it is in use throughout EYFS and KS1, and is being introduced into KS2.
The following document has been produced by Mrs Duke, the school phonics lead, and is designed to give supporting information to families so that they can understand more about the teaching and learning that takes place in school and can support their children more effectively.
Sounds Write - Initial Code Videos
Year 1 have made some wonderful videos to support children and families with the pronunciation of the sounds.
The videos consist of the sounds of the alphabet with exception to 'q'.
There are not many words in the English dictionary with the single letter 'q' and Sounds Write does not include this as part of their phonics approach. Instead children are taught to read and spell 'q u' which is pronounced /k/w/.
