Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all keeping yourselves safe and well.

My plan is to make some weekly activities available each Monday morning. These will include spellings to practise (these can also be used as words to practise in the handwriting books that were sent home) and a little mini project. On a daily basis I plan to add a writing task and/or a maths task. In addition to this the children have access to Times Table Rock Stars and I will provide a further list of useful education websites that the children can practise vital skills on.

It would be amazing if the children could read for half an hour every day, either alone, with you or with a sibling. As many of you know I’m incredibly passionate about the importance of reading and if you can do anything with your child whilst they are at home, read. Listen to them read, read to them, watch others read. They can act out stories, make puppets shows. So many companies are providing ebooks for children for free during these challenging times. For example, Aubible are now letting children stream stories for free to desktops, laptops, phones or tablets. Vooks is also an online service that provides access to hundreds of books and offer a months free trial. And I am sure more companies will come forward with free access to things that can be found with a quick Google.

I would really like to stress that I completely understand that the majority of you are also trying to work from home, keep businesses running etc. and to now have to juggle that with your child’s education is very daunting. Although I am going to make these activities available please do not feel the pressure to get them all done. This is so unprecedented for everyone, and a position I never thought I’d be in as a teacher. I don’t really know how much to provide but don’t want any parents feeling guilty for not getting all of the tasks completed with their children. I am purely putting opportunities for learning available for those who want them.

I would also like to stress that this is an amazing opportunity to teach your children things that, in our fast paced lives, seemed impossible to beforehand. Going for nature walks, learning how to make a cake, taking part in art activities etc.

I really do wish you all the best and truly hope to see you all soon.

Many thanks
